Photos: Reds at Wrigley 4/17

Penny smasher!

This photo was sent late. Wrigley Field has a penny smasher! It's by the main merchandise store behind home plate. I smashed two of the four designs available. I love when ballparks have these - they are cheap, fun souvenirs. I've also smashed pennies at Jacobs Field in Cleveland and at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.

Merchy

Cubs merch
Some Cubs merch outside Wrigley. Interesting t-shirts include one that said "Cardinals Take It In Their Pujols". Very nice.

I talked to a vendor before the game that was selling Kosuke Fukudome merch including some headbands for $10. He asked if I would like to take one home to Cincinnati, and I said I would, but not for $10. He went on to tell me that he was a White Sox fan and Cubs fans are the dumbest fans on earth. He apparently laughs to himself every time a Cubs fan gives him a dollar.

Fukudome mania is pretty crazy up there. Fun to see, actually. We need to have Brandon Phillips mania or something. Maybe Bruce mania when he comes up? We'll have to work on that.

Reds win!
Big day for Joey Votto. A four-bagger and 5 RBIs on the day. Cubs killer?

The stuff isn't half bad. Maybe drinking it at Wrigley had something to do with it. Cheers!

Helmet sundae

Cubs Helmet sundae
It was chilly in the shade at Wrigley, but getting a helmet sundae at the ballpark is still worth it. Even if it is in a Cubs helmet. I'll just have to add that one to my collection. What's up with no toppings? The guy at the food stand didn't seem to interested in giving me a good one. Maybe it was me wearing my Reds jersey and Joey Votto doing some damage to the Cubs pitching staff.

Tom Arnold thows first pitch

Tom Arnold thows first pitch
Tom Arnold throws first pitch. Gawd he sucks! Him singing the 7th inning stretch was pretty annoying too.

Reds BP

Reds batting practice at Wrigley Field
Nice to see Reds batting practice. As usual, Griffey and Dunn were launching bombs into the bleachers and on Waveland. The bleacher bums got plenty of souvenirs. And plenty of ammo to toss back on the field when Griffey and Votto teed off later that afternoon.

Chillin' at Wrigley

Wrigley Field
And we are getting heckeled already. But, that's okay... We kind of asked for it. As we walked around outside the ballpark before, we walked right past the line of folks waiting to get into the bleachers. There were a few boos and one, very creative, "Reds Suck!". They could have been much worse, of course. All in good fun.

Made it

Wrigley Field
We made it... in good time too. Found free parking along the street and we were set. Not bad, eh?
